Since I've a compulsive behaviour of shopping, I've decided to start blogging about my purchases here. Expect mostly bargains and sales item because who can resist?

Went to the pharmacy to buy a new facial cleanser that will do it's job in removing make up. As much as I love my Burt's Bees it just doesn't do its job well enough in removing my BB cream. More about that next time!

I finally bought myself a hair dryer months after moving out (no more sisters hair dryer to use). A new toy to play with plus the cold winter months leads to a new obsession.

This is going to sound so bimbo but I love blow drying my hair as it leaves my hair bouncy and tame compared to my hair that would otherwise look dry and unruly.

I am well aware of the damage that heat can do to your hair but I've never really bothered because I do not put my hair through that kind of stress often but now, it was time to get a heat protector! I've heard friends and read some reviews of people complaining that heat protectors leave a layer of weirdness on hair so I was trying to be careful and vary when purchasing my first heat protector. I've have a bad history of compulsively buying new/wrong products. One morning, I went to Priceline store and stared at the isle where hair care products are slowly browsing that the various brands and type of hair products. Had a hard time making up my mind and decided on Organix's Vanilla Silk Blow Dry Cream. Purchased it for ~$14 on offer.

Good news is that this doesn't leave any weird feeling on my hair and it smells absolutely divine (I'm a huge vanilla scent fan)! It's organic and it's vanilla- should be hard to go wrong with. My hair feels softer and more bouncy but I don't know if that's the work of the blow dryer or this product. Conclusion: I absolutely love this product for it's divine scent!!!

On another note:

Disguising a bad hair day

My options usually are:

1. Tie my hair up in a cute french braid.

Works all the time and gets lots of compliments!

2. Tie it up in a bun.

2.1. A messy bun

2.2. A top knot

3. Wear a hair band- I rarely do this because bad hair days and fat days seem to co-exist and hair bands are just too 'cute' to go with it if you know what I mean.

And of course, dry shampoo to the rescue to hide and signs of greasy hair. :)

p.s. I just visited Organix's website and by the name of the shampoos (Cherry Blossom Ginseng, Grapefruit Mango Butter, Pomegranate Green Tea) I can just imagine how yummy it would smell! Must read up some reviews on this brand soon and purchase it the next time I need new shampoo!

I just wanted to show you some looks that I really love and would definitely wear, if I were skinny enough.

Speaking of which, is it me or do fashion these days require even much more skinnier people to wear them? Sure I know that fashion always required skinny people, but trends this time around favor the really rail-thin kind. In contrast to voluptuous figures or the muscle-toned ones of a few years back, back when those looks were still relatively doable. Like we have to go back to the waif-like bodies of the past with all the body-con trends, and midriff bearing tops. and to the 80s inspired looks that really only the ultra thin can pull off.

Me, I really love these looks, but I've always felt myself as kinda stocky and nowhere near lean enough for it.

In any case, here's some inspiration for you.

Finally bought a new pair of flats.
My old black one is a safety hazard as the soles are completely worn out! I'd be walking extra careful on smooth surfaces or risk falling flat on my face or butt.

T'was such a steal at only $5!

Was going to be boring and buy the brown flats but I decided to be just a little more bold and get this one instead in "Gunmetal".

Hello folks!

Weather has been getting colder here in Brisbane as we approach winter. No more bare legs and sleeveless tops; instead it's jackets and leggings all the way! I'm still quite excited at the prospect of winter. Although it'll be cold, I'm looking forward to layering clothes and experimenting with different styles that I wouldn't otherwise get to try back in hot, humid Malaysia.

Aaand this is my sister's pirate outfit for a salsa event which looks more Litte Bo Beep gone badass. We had a good time laughing over how she did not really look piratey at all. However, since she bought the outfit on e-bay, about 7 other girls turned up in the same outfit as her!! 0_o But judging from the pictures, I still think she looked the best in it. :D

This dress just inspires me to team it up with red. I wasn't feeling bold enough to wear it with my red tights so I wore it with a red scarf instead.

Meet Isabel Brodie, she turned 21 two days ago!

The point of this is to show off her make up. LOL.
I did most of the girls make up for our night out. I'm just self praising myself because this is my first attempt on applying make up on someone else. The birthday girl got special attention and I'm personally very proud of my masterpiece. Self praise. Didn't have much time to everything nicely as we were already running late. Youtube helped loads, will share with everyone the video I used.

What fashion really is about, is just simply expressionism.
Its telling the world a story, its portraying an emotion . . .
Fashion is art, with a no greater canvas than yourself. Its not so much the clothes or the expensive price tags. Its found in something as simple as henna tattoos

or drawn on images on cheap white shoes.

Fashion is putting streaks in your hair, and home-made bracelets with your favorite emblem.

Sure we all want the fancy stuff, but the simplest things can be the most delicious. Like a cheeseburger or char koay teow in contrast with the Kobe and Wagyu's of the world.

Maybe that's why I love it so much.
I find inspiration in so many things in the world, but today, stepping away from my first post of the grunge, bedlam, Harlem arena. We talk nerdom.

It was Nerd day in Uni today.

Hee! Don't mind the socket.

I find the day called for the standard get-up - the pleated skirt, glasses, tie and white button-down shirt. But I threw on a vest from Dorothy Perkins, those self-drawn white shoes, and my favourite leather brown bag, and called it a day.

Get this, they were all candids. Imagine that! Me looking decent, without having to pose for a single one of them! What happened was simply Ea talking to me, me scratching my head wondering just how to pose without coming off retarded, and her asking me to smile.
That's how good she is.

But of course she also managed to take this.
Sigh model fail.

p.s. The tie is really dark green up close. I find mismatching your tones also one to look out for.
p.p.s yes, the get-up isn't that creative, the point really was making themes like 'nerd day' your own. Putting it into your context. In my case, the Jowee interpretation of nerdiness that works for me. Find your favourite styles and make it your own.

Gold lids, red lips

Today let's talk make-up.

This post assumes you already know the basics of make-up.

But first, as proof, here's what I look like without it.

Here's me with the look we're doing today.

Bangs swept away showing a high forehead. (Tyra calls it a fivehead) and those red lips I love.

As a side-note, I always hated my large forehead (and my eyes... and huge nose for that matter. Lol, no I'm not insecure.) Growing up, boys in particular gave me a hard time. They said I looked bald, and it always reminded me of aliens/martians/eggheads, also I think it makes my face look huge. That's why I always had bangs, even my hairdresser advocates bangs for me to cover my "huge forehead".

However, its regarded as "beautiful" in high fashion. So, taking a note from high-fashion in making the ugly beautiful, I try I try.

It's important that we all have well-shaped eyebrows, and a clean face to start with. Your face is your canvas, your paper, so before everything else, let it be moisturized, even-toned, and pimple-free. Facials are important and an integral part of grooming patterns, like getting your hair-cut.

For this look, I used:

1. The Body Shop brow definer

2. Kate "deep eyes" palette in shades of Bronze and Gold.

3. MAC powerpoint eyeliner (Crayon) in charcoal black

4.MAC zoom lash

5. Standard drugstore eyelash curler and the bodyshop eyelid brush

6. Stage lipstick 05 (Racy)

(I usually apply blushers and cheek tints, but I went without it because the goal today is one striking hue of red, and minimalist everything else. I also usually O-D on the eyeliner, but again, today I held it off.)

SO OKAY!

Let's get started!

After applying foundation, concealer (if necessary) and doing your brows...

hold up your palette, and use the light-gold section on the far right as the base.

Be sure to cover the entire lid, and additionally on the browbone. I also use it under my lids, and in the inner corner of my eyes. Basically the whole thing.

Next, use the bronze (the largest midsection portion) as a shading in the socket. All eyes have this socket, push your brush deep into the nook of your eye here. This creates depth or a "shadow".

In addition to the socket, I create a "V" at the ends of my eyes with the same Bronze shadowing. The "V" pulls the color together so that it does not look awkward (As if the shadowing is only at one part)

After that, we must highlight. So taking the silvery-gold portion of the palette (the smallest section), apply it in the middle of your lids, where you'd imagine your eyeballs to be, in that exact amount of an eyeball.

Then take the dark green and line your lids to the desired shape (as an eyeliner). And the dark brown for the under-eye.

I like to apply eyeliners under the eyelash because without, there seems to be a gap of un-applied liner between my lashes. So I do that. Its not scary trust me. You will not gouge out your eyes. Well, unless you're retarded.

Then curl your lashes, and apply mascara.

I like to curl my lashes at an angle, like so:

I do this because my lashes are a little retarded, I have to tilt the handle upwards after curling so that it curls more seamlessly and the curls don't look awkward. But, that's just my eyes.

Then my favourite part, slather on the red rouge!

I give my lips a dap with tissue paper because the red is a little too red for me sometimes. I dab once over, then another time. (twice)

after that, I slather on a gloss. Any gloss of your choice.

And after that, YOU'RE DONE!

Hello folks! I'm sure you've noticed by now that we have a very awesome guest blogger named Jowee, who helps us out when we're all crazy busy with assignments and work. You guys can check her personal blog out coz other than fashion, she writes about a lot of other things as well! Hope you've been enjoying her posts.

Anyway, I'm here to share with you guys my latest obsessions - shoes! I recently bought the red Nike high tops in the picture above for $AUD70. It was pretty cheap since it was on sale and I absolutely loved the colour and the bronze sparkly sides. Harbour Town shopping really rocks! It is actually half a size to small so it's a tad tight at times but still comfy. I've been wearing it a lot lately.

That's what I typically wear to uni nowadays. A jumper/hoodie/jacket with shorts. Occasionally I'll throw in some tights or wear jeans. Weather has been getting colder coz it's autumn now! On normal days, it's like being under contant air-conditioning but when the wind blows, it feel like it cuts through exposed skin. *shudders* At least Queensland is still the Sunshine State so we still have good amounts of Vitamin D to warm us up in spite of the chilly wind. :)

I really like my sister's chic grey and black combo too! She manages to pull off horizontally striped tops coz she's skinny. I can never pull it off. =/

What I wore for dinner that day at a Turkish restaurant. And these boots are my second obsession at the moment. I've been wearing them everywhere coz they're really comfy! Got them on sale as well from Pay Less Shoes for around $AUD50? It was a present from my dad. He actually noticed my cheapo boots from Rubi Shoes wearing fraying and bought me new ones!

DIY: Bleached Denim Jacket

It's been awhile since my last update here at Five Fashion Friends.
This was a DIY project that I've been itching to do for the longest time and I finally got to it about a month ago.

I got this denim jacket at a clothes swap party that a distant relative of mine organized last year. (more like me taking, not swapping. I didn't know it was a clothes swap until before we left the house)

I didn't like the boring dark blue look to this jacket and my fingers were itching.

So what you would need is:
Bleach
Spray Bottle
Rubber gloves

Note: I tried soaking the jacket in a bucket with 1/3 Bleach and 2/3 Water but THAT DOES NOT WORK.

The successful way to do it is just to simply pour the bleach into the spray bottle, spray it all over the jacket and leave it on for 10-20 minutes. Not too long though, you don't want to spoil the jacket.

I hung the jacket with a hanger outside and just sprayed all over.

The final results?

Not too bad ey? :)

My sister and I checked out the Direct Factory Outlet (DFO) in Jindalee last week. And we manage to get some absolute steals! Eg: In Cotton On we bought like 10 items for AUD$50. I finally feel that my wardrobe has some substance again.

On the other hand, the weather has been getting much cooler lately. It's probably due to changing of seasons from summer to autumn. Bring on the autumn gear! :D

So I managed to take Daily Outfit pictures after about 2 months? We were going out for a friend's birthday dinner.

My sister got her fringe boots for only $10! Steal steal steal!

I think her fringe boots and studded dress combination is really awesome!

And this is my outfit! I got my boots from Rubi Shoes for $25 only! Such a bargain.
The quality isn't the best in the world coz it's started to fray a little already. But I think it adds to that scruffy, worn out look. I'll just wear it for as long as I possibly can. ;)

Hello all,

It's been a really long time since I've updated here at Five Fashion Friends. I feel bad, really.

It's officially Autumn now but the weather has yet to cool down. The weather is partly to be blamed for my lack of updates. On hot hot days, all you can bear to wear are shorts and a tank top!

This has got to be my sure win combo. LOL. Leggings with my favourite but now worn out looking floral tank. I even made the effort of editing my pictures so they look artsy-fartsy! LOL

This post was meant to be posted like a gazillion years ago. So sorry I never got to doing it. It's just the last few months have been absolutely crazy, I barely had time to update my own blog let alone Five Fashion Friends.

Furthermore, I only have limited clothes here in Aussie since I couldn't bring much without it costing a bomb so I have totally no motivation to take Daily Outfit shots. Mainly coz I feel that you've already seen it all before since I brought my fail-safe staples. I know you're supposed to mix and match and create exciting new combinations everyday... but without my arsenal or accesories I had back home and the large variety of clothes I feel slightly lost. It'll probably take me awhile before I post up any Daily Outfit shots.

Instead, I'll scout around for cool outfits other people are wearing and post them here (when I have the time) so people who are in need for fashion inspiration will feel, well, inspired! Watch this space for those.

In the meantime, one of the last few Daily Outfit shots we took in KL on our excursion to Petrosains in KLCC.

Guest model Jowee working the neutrals! The earthy colours really complement her skin tone and she looks fabulous! :D

This isn't exactly Mel's outfit shot (we didn't manage to get one of her) but I thought it showcased her outfit pretty well so here goes! Sorry abt the kid behind though...

Anyway, that's her signature bow hairband from Diva and she really pulled off the sparkly red wedges from Vincci which matched her quilted bag. And by keeping the rest of her outfit monochromatic, the red really pops! I think I like it coz it's probably something I wouldn't have been able to pull off - especially the shoes! ;)

HELLO TO WHOEVER THAT IS STILL HERE! It's been a long time since I've last blogged here and I'm really thankful nobody hired any killers to shoot me down for being such a slack!

BTW, since it's the year of the Tiger this year for most Chinese or people that celebrates CNY, and because that I have such boring nail colours or you could say, half-cracked-nail-polish on my fingernails everytime(?), I've decided to spice things up a little bit by painting a tiger theme! It was quite a tiring routine having to paint like that for every ten fingers and plus, it was just my first time doing it with a toothpick. I only have a bright orange and the dark purple is the closest I've got to black so that's why the colour combination might seem weird to you. Anyways I did manage to paint all my fingers but only the middle finger on my left hand satisfies me wth?

Got myself a cheetah/leopard ring before I head back to Perth just in time for the CNY theme! I've always wanted a big black bow headband and this is actually big enough to be seen on my black hair! Have been spending the whole CNY with Dad, Mum and Sis only just like the old times, four of us. A dream came true? Somehow, it feels different from what I have in mind. Things could never be the same as last time I guess? I'll just take whatever that is being put in front of me.

Treats for the Big V Day!

Big V is definitely drawing near!! I cannot wait for the day to spend it with the ones you love. The day also means that you get to see more and buy more! V day is the perfect excuse to your shopping expenses, no? Haha. ;)

Well, as usual, I was online-window-shopping (so called window shopping, but I always ended up buying tons of things) trying to see if there’s something I can buy for my loved ones. Somehow through review blogs I ended up in this blog “Velvet Dream” and I found this amazing beautiful little thing.

The little round angel with wings is definitely one to die for! I’ve came across the standard angel wings rings but I’ve never seen one like this. And with a diamond on it! I’m definitely head over heels in love with this little sparkling ring. =D

I don’t know bout you, but I would really love this ring for the big V day. Even though it’s not expensive but it’s special and definitely unique! It’s the thought that counts!

Half a year ago, Nicole shouted the exact same thing to me. You must think, OUCH!! Well, what can I say, I have a rather straightforward friend. ;)

But also thanks to this friend, I decided to add more spice to my clothing. Yes! She was right! I was awefully dull. Only ever wearing basic colours.

Well, from now onwards, I pledge to buy more colourful clothes! =D However, I'm only in probation period towards colours. I am no good with colours and hope all the readers can help in telling me which colours goes well with other colours.

The inspiration:

Pictures credited to * p u m p k i n *.
Their Bejewelled Chains selling for RM35 each. It's perfect for spicing up your outfit and giving it some edge. Feeling inspired and since my hand's have been itching for quite awhile now, I attempted to make one of my own.

Some of you might know this but during my early teen days, I went through a beads/DIY craze so till now, I've got lots of left over beads which still come in hands when I'm feeling crafty. So here's how I did mine; (no step by step picture tutorial since it was a spur of a moment thing and I did it while watching tv)

STEP 1: I cut out the bottom of an old pair of black jeans. You can use whatever suits you but I used black jeans because that's what I had lying untouched in my drawers. Just use your own judgment and refer to the original picture to get a rough idea of the shape and size.

STEP 2: Once you've got the base, go crazy customizing it! I used the silver whatever-it-is-called to help make it pop, it was leftovers that I bought last year from Jusco for my scrapbook project. IMO, it gives it a little military-esque vibe. I bought the studs from Petaling Street, RM10 for a packet of 100, faux pearls and chains that I just had lying around. Again, I was only working with whatever I had at home atm, so just go crazy with your design!

This is what I got.

I personally don't dare to go OTT.

STEP 2 1/2: This isn't complete yet. I plan to get pins attached underneath so I can pin them down to any jacket and add fringe details so it'll hang over the shoulders.

Another one of my worries is that the fabric is peeling. Got to figure out how to seal them up so it doesn't keep peeling. So here's what it looks like on a blazer! Btw, the blazer is vintage. Got it from my mum. :) Gotta love the comeback of yesteryear's fashion. Hint: Never throw anything out. ;)

What my sister and I wore to our Christmas dinner and then to Bar Twenty One at BSC for drinks to countdown to her birthday!

You can't really see it here but my sister was wearing skin coloured fishnet stockings. Up close, it certainly added more punch to her otherwise simple outfit.

I also loved how she clipped a big, black flower to her top. Instantly adds chic, no?

This isn't exactly what I wore out for the day. I wore a black vest over it instead of the belt for fairly obvious reasons but I just liked this look so much more. Loving how the top drapes around the waist belt.

One of my friends was looking at our pictures the other day and she commented that we look so different and unique in terms of our appearance and sense of style that it was quite refreshing, compared to seeing a whole group of girls who look like clones of each other - brown hair (either all straight or all permed), fake eyelashes, coloured contacts, skin tight/short clothes.

I found her statement to be very true since I have never thought about us in that way before. Maybe that's why we admire each other's clothes so much? Anyway, kudos to individuality!

Super skinny Jean looking good in her floral top and matching tights.

Love how Mel jazzed up a simple tank top and cuffed shorts combination with accesories! Makes her whole look seem entirely different, no? Check out those snakeskin gladiators.

I especially love her white clip on flower and colourful heart shaped pendant. Makes you feel bright and happy by just looking at it. :D

Was browsing through suncare products one fine day at Watsons looking out for Neutrogena Sunblock. I absolutely adore Neutrogena's sunblock for various reasons. With SPF 50+, PA+++ and contains Helioplex^® technology but most importantly, it lives up to its claim of giving you the ultra light clean feel. It's non greasy and non sticky. I used to use it on my face and then use Banana Boat sunblock on my body and I would get so irritated because my it leave my body feeling sticky and uncomfortable. So I would highly recommend Neutrogena's Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunblock to anyone.

I've never tried much brands of sunblock other than Banana Boat, Neutrogena and the sample pack of Sun Play so after browsing the shelves of Watsons, I saw this:

A Biore Sunblock for face and it's ideal as a make up base! Double score. Considering that it also has SPF50 and PA+++ I thought why not. Besides, it's the same content (30ml) as Neutrogena sunblock for face and it's almost half the price! (approx RM22 after discount)

It's made in Japan so everything is in Japanese except for the stick on information.
I think I'm falling into the Everything-Japanese-Is-Awesome bandwagon. After 18 years, I finally come to realize and admit not to fall for airbrushed perfection and claims of brand such as Nivea, Loreal etc not that they're not good but simply because us Asian's just have different kind of skin and hair. So the Japanese formulation should suit us better since it is in fact developed specially to suit Asian skin. :)

Back to the Biore sunblock now.

It's a minimalist packaging which is nice. It has a liquid consistency which makes it easy to apply and blend into your face as opposed to the creamier base like Neutrogena's which will require more work blending in. If you don't blend, like I have experienced, you're left with some white streak on your face which is not pretty. :/

Blends in nicely not leaving any white marks. As it says that it's ideal as a make up base, it does in fact leave my skin feeling soft and velvety. I can't say much of it in terms of oil control or making my make up last longer though since I have not used and observed it much yet.

Oh, and as for smell. It does not have any strong fragrance. It smell delightfully light.

I think I need not elaborate more on the importance of wearing sun protection so remember girls, always were sunblock!

Miss Selfridge Christmas '09 Collection

I was received a mail from Miss Selfridge regarding their Christmas collection and instantly fell in love with it.

Which is weird coz I hardly ever get anything from Miss Selfridge. I get my stuff from Topshop and Dorothy Perkins (their jeans rock!).

Doesn't this picture draw you in already?

The sequinned jackets, studded dresses and military esque jackets are making me salivate already.

Here's some of the Christmas collection items that I really like:

I really love the black and white scarves.

I can see them being paired with black blazers and looking oh-so-chic.

Fell irrevocably in love with this clutch. The studs!!!

I wish they had it in silver though. I'm not such a big fan of gold.

Love the cropped blazers. Especially the one on the right! The sleeves are so interesting.

Dresses.
The one on the left is my favourite. I love how the tutu brings out the ballerina-like effect yet the black makes the dress look edgy.

With things heating up in Perth, it was time to whip out the skirts, shorts, tanks and tees.

Here's a compilation of a few of my daily outfits in Perth.

Am back in KL now which is hello to humidity and well, covering up a little more because you just dont want to attract the wrong kinda attraction.

So just have a browse through the pictures of my outfits.

The skirt can be very unforgiving as it hugs onto you curves. I found that by adding the cardigan and belt it helps slim down the look.

And a few more here and there.

My best purchase has got to be the denim shorts that I bought from Valley Girl for $24.90 as seen in all 3 photos. Sometimes, nothing beats the good ol' shorts and t-shirt combo. :)

Went to Cotton On again and I was SO HAPPY that they restocked all the sizes! I can't get enough of Cotton On now! Especially when the Pavilion Store has more varieties than the Pyramid Store. XD

Went to Pavilion yesterday with my boy and found this amazing country style floral dress. Was TOTALLY IN LOVE WITH IT. Haha, I know I know, I can't get enough of floral now too. But too bad I've bought the spaghetti one. =( So decided maybe find another type of floral. Now here are the pictures!

After What Seems Like a Decade

After what seems like a decade, I'm finally back in action! Have been missing lately. Blame it to the mood and the nerves and the EXAMS! The most hateful thing is IT'S STILL NOT OVER YET!

Been so stressful that I almost fainted in the exam hall. Can't stand it any longer, headed straight to shopping right after Project Management test. Swan dropped me off at pyramid. Miss her so dear. Been so busy lately that I hardly see her =( **hugs** Love you dear. =)

Went to the new open Cotton On store in pyramid wanting to get a pair of flats but failed miserably. Is it cause all malaysian girls are my feet and body size that all my sizes are gone? Or is it particularly me that's cursed? Couldn't find a single thing which fits me.

Headed to Kitschen right opposite Cotton On. It seems to me that Kitschen is having a very distasteful season. Everything was SO UGLY I DIDN'T TRY ON ANYTHING!

Was so streeful and the shops failed me. I went to my miracle shop Forever 21! Was at dismay when my favourite shop failed me as well. =( I only tried on a few things unlike my usual tons of clothes.

Fell in love with the white tank top but was too big and see through. In the end only bought the Dark Olive spaghetti top.

The only thing that cheered me up was the heartful meal at Tony Romas. Their BBQ chicken and Potato Soup is something to kill for.

On another note, for those who has comments on how skinny I am. I EAT! In fact, I eat ALOT!

My current obsession is with...boots.

Which is so unpractical because I can never wear them here. (Or at least seldom la..)

But I walked past Aldo in Gardens one day... and this baby right here was on display.

It was love at first sight I tell you.

My sister will probably tell you how I stood in front of the window display and squeaked and squealed as I looked at it.

Unfortunately, my current love at first sight and I are not meant to be... because it costs RM490.

And it is very unpractical because I won't be able to wear it here.

It is perfect lo.

The material is suede-like which makes it so gorgeous to touch (won't be very nice in the rain though >.<)

And it has studs all round it!!!!

I was so sold it's not funny.

Plus it's flat heeled so it's comfy.

Now everytime I walk past Aldo, I have to stop and stare at the window display.

I am not kidding lo. Sigh.

Spring has Sprung

Finally, the sun is out (though it still hides behind the clouds some days)! Good bye to jeans, boots, blacks and scarves. Hello to tans, colours, shorts, dresses, sunnies and thongs. When I say thongs, what I mean is flip-flops not the undergarment.

The first spring outfit:

So want to buy more short dresses! Went shopping today and it was a fail. :( Fail yesterday as well. Saw a peach tie died top for only $10 but it was too big.
I tried on a maxi dress and I liked it!

Oh, and I finally learnt how to do fishtail braids! Tried it out on my sister as you can see.

Basically all you have to do is to separate your hair into two sections. Now you'll have a left section and a right section. What you do now is you take a small portion of the outside of the right section and bring it over to the inside of the left section. Do the same with the left side to right side and keep on going. In my opinion, it takes awhile for you to finally see the fishtail results. Happy trying!

The Girl Loves Diva

Since Diva landed on Malaysian shores I-don't-know-when, I've been buying 90% of my accessories from Diva. It's not just that I'm a crazy fanboy but it's just that Diva accessories are silver coated making it ok for my nickel allergy. I wont itch and break out with dermatitis. Curse the nickel allergy okay, now I can't buy cheaper accessories unless they're nickel free or allergy friendly.

There's a store here, very similar to Diva even cheaper but imo, a little inferior to Diva and it's called Equip. Was at that store a month ago or so and I so wanted to buy this quilted purse and it was only $20 but my sister said it doesn't look nice so I didn't get it. Went there again last week because they were having sales and I found my purse on half price! BUY.

Would have prefered black but off-white was all that they had.
I like my new purse! At least this one had separate slots for your notes and a zipper for your coins. My old one didn't and it was quite a pain as my coins would constantly be dropping out.

Okay, as for another very exciting news,
LOOK WHAT OPENED AT CAROUSEL MALL opposite the existing Diva shop.
Diva Outlet! EVERYTHING YOU SEE is $5 (okay, perhaps some more than $5)

I'm in the land down under here so can anyone tell me what's the average price of Diva items on sale in KL? Considering how the AUD exchange rate just wont stop increasing, I'm not sure if $5 is still considered cheap.

My One and Only Thrill

Zara was having this massive sale and this dress was going for only RM70!

I would have bought the dress if I thought I could actually eat while wearing it. =.=

I really REALLY like the design though.

I am insanely in love with the black, sparkly, sequinned top from Forever 21.

But it's not really feasible to buy it since it's so super shiny, I can only wear it out at night.

Otherwise I just look like a black disco ball.
Still doesn't stop me from oogling at it though! 0_o

I ALMOST bought this top but Kit Mun point blank refused to let me get it because according to her I could like.. add RM30 and get the dress below. =/

She thinks I should wear it for prom. I would if I could actually breathe in it.

Besides, I'd be able to wear the top more often than the dress. The dress you wear once, then it's so hard to wear again since I seldom wear dresses out. =(

This might be old news (someone down under updating you on the happenings of KL) but I just gotta share!

Cotton On is FINALLY opening two stores in KL in early September! It's already mid September so I assume that it's already open in Pavilion and One Utama! I absolutely love Cotton On for the basics that they offer! Oh, someone please please tell me, is it just Cotton On or is Cotton On Body finally there as well? But with the exchange rate, it's about the same price to buy in KL or Aus. Perhaps it'll be cheaper to buy in Singapore since dollar for dollar, the prices are the same in Aus and Sing. tralala.

On a similar note, I THINK H&M is going to open a store in KL! OMG! I'm not sure about the price range but I sure am excited to hear more updates on this!

It's not absolute power tho as it's a debit card not a credit card. Since I started working, I've got my own money to spend guilt free. I think I blew off my first weeks pay and a little bit of my second pay already. hehe. No worries, after this mini celebration, I shall save up!

How To Do Swan's Crazy Eyeliner

As promised, (and since I have the most requests for this) here is a simple tutorial on how to do my makeup. It really is quite easy and once you've mastered it, it takes about 5 minutes to paint it on. Fuss free indeed!

PS: And if you have single eyelids and have no idea how to put makeup on, this should be pretty useful. It really helped me a lot since we single eyelid-ers can't put on makeup the way double eyelid people do. =.=

Anyway, before applying any form of makeup, you HAVE to cleanse, tone, moisturise. Basic skincare routine is very important to prevent premature aging!

After I cleanse, tone and moisuturise, I apply a makeup base from Shu Uemura to smoothen the imperfections on my face as well as lessen to lessen the redness. The makeup base also acts as a barrier, protecting my face from the powder foundation which will be put on after all the eye makeup is done.

It also has SPF if I'm not mistaken, so I don't have to put on sunblock. =)

You have to hold the bottle at 90 degrees and shake well before squirting it out. The texture is kinda foamy and light. Just apply it evenly over your face and you're good to go.

Jowee once asked me what was the one makeup product I don't leave the house without. And my answer was the Shu Uemura makeup base. It has become ingrained as part of my skin care routine I supposed.

I used to use a MAC makeup base which was not bad too but was slightly oilier. =/

Okay, here is how I look sans makeup on except for the makeup base.

So the first step to replicating my eye makeup would be the ever important liquid eyeliner.

As you can see, I use MAC's LiquidLast Liner which I find really good as it firmly stays on without smudging until you take it off.

In other words, it really does last.

Okay, so you draw the liquid liner close to your lash line extending outwards and upwards with a tiny little flick upwards at the end. You liquid liner should be JUST visible when you open your eyes (like the picture above).

Since everybody's eyes are different, use your own discretion when applying please.

(Oh and ignore my bad skin. stupid macro mode is too good liao. =.=)

This is the actual amount of eyeliner I had to put to fill up the space from my lashline to the top where it is JUST visible when I open my eyes. And you can see the cat-eye-upwards-flick more clearly here.

Oh yeah, a common concern about using liquid liner is that you have to have super steady hands. That is REALLY untrue. Because I have super shaky hands (I can never play Operation! >.<).

The trick is to rest your hand on your chin or on the mirror while using the liquid liner.

Now you know! ;)

Here you go. A comparision of before and after the liquid liner.

Obviously my left eye is after and my right eye is before.

The liquid liner is sort of like the base, once you hae that in place, you can use any kind of eyeliner on top of it in any colour to blend.

It basically gives your eyes more definition. ;)

After the liquidliner, you can use any sort of pencil or liquid liners in any colour you want for the top part. I usually use pencil liners coz they don't look so harsh.

Here I'm using MAC's pencil liner in Prunella. It's a mixture of brown and purple.

At other times, I use Silkygirl pencil eyeliners. At only RM14.90 they're really affordable plus they stay on forever. The only downside is that you have exert a bit more force when you draw it on which isn't good for the eyes (all that excessive pulling =S) as it will cause wrinkles around the eyes sooner or later.

This is why MAC eyeliners rock coz the colour glides on really easily and it's supremely easy to blend. However, MAC's pencil liners don't stay on AS long and tend to smudge a little towards the end of the day and they are like thrice the price of Silkygirl's eyeliners.

But if you want quality, you have to pay a price for it I guess.

Using the liner and colour of your choice, just draw on top of the liquid liner following its shape, overlapping it just a little bit so that the two colours blend.

Remember to extend that wing at the end of your eye so that it looks bigger!

And as you can see, that's before and after again. Such dramatic differences. Le sigh.

You can actually alter the shape of your eye when you draw the pencil eyeliner on depending on how you want your eye shape to me.

In my case, I want my eyes to look bigger so the middle part of my eye is extended higher so that it looks bigger.

But if you want longer eyes, you should extend the eyeliner to the back more, giving the illusion of longer, sleeker eyes.

When I close my eyes, this is how it looks.

Ideally, you should blend until you cannot see the distiction between the black liquid liner and the Prunella pencil liner.

To aid the blending process, you can employ the use of a black pencil eyeliner but you run the risk of getting smudges after a while. What I usually do is just draw on the line between the liquid liner and the pencil liner till the two distinct lines aren't visible anymore. For some reason, coloured pencil liners don't smudge as easily as black ones do. 0_o

Just repeat the process for the other eye and you're good to go!

This is how it looks like when you close both your eyes.

Lastly, just line your lower lashline with the pencil eyeliner.

I usually just line it halfway. Going all the way in is a bit too scary and animalistic!

There we go! The finished product!

Since my right eye is slightly smaller than my left, I have to draw more pencil liner to even it out and make it look roughly the same size.

Aaaand...my trademark purple which is from Silkygirl.

If you want to add more sparkle in the form of eyeshadow, add it above the pencil liner, blending it all the way to your browbone. I only do that for special occasions or during the night coz the eyeliner alone look very heavy already.

Alternatively, you can also put white/silver eyeshadow or eyeliner on the inner corners of your eyes to make your eyes look even bigger. Personally, I used a silver liner from some Japanese brand to do it. Again, I only do it for special occasions or for nights out coz it's a bit scary to have so much makeup on normally. =P

So there you have it! How to make your single eyelid eyes look bigger in a super simple way.

If you plan on trying this out, tell me how it turned out! It gets better with practice I assure you.

Just thought I'd quickly share what I'm currently lusting after:

I really like this retro looking dress from Forever 21. But the shape is slightly off. =(

Oh and introducing temporary model- Jowee! I absolutely love the blue dress she's wearing coz it's gorgeous and the material is really good. She bought it by the way.

This top is from Miss Selfridge. I really like the fringe details all over the sides and the colours at the neckline! Too bad it costs a bomb! (RM130 if I'm mistaken! 0_o)

The black blazer I have on is 70% off (RM113 after discount) from Springfield. The material was really silky and nice but I didn't get it in the end. Was really tempted to though!

I've been wanting a nice, structured blazer to pair with casual outfits so that the blazer will smarten up the overall look!

Batiste Dry Shampoo

Back in KL, I used to hear about dry shampoo from magazines and TV but the only dry shampoo I know of in KL was one from Anna Sui. Can you say way over my budget? (okay, I don't really know how much it costs)

In the category of Best Dry Shampoo in the Australian Beauty Awards 2009, the winner was Batiste Blush Shampoo. It's retail price is $9.90 for a 150ml so I thought, why not!

It's available in 3 different fragrances: Original, Blush and Tropical.

I bought Blush because it smells lovely.
Tropical smelt too strongly of coconuts (like Herbal Essences Hello Hydration!) and I thought it would be too overwhelming.

I just got back from a jog just now. I washed my hair this morning and I've got a dinner tonight. Honestly, I don't want to wash my hair again, its dry enough as it is and you don't really sweat here in Perth during winter so I decided to use my new dry shampoo and share my experience with it here on Five Fashion Friends!

The post-workout mess of a hair

First, you need to shake the can well.

Hold it approximately 30cm away and spray lightly, giving even coverage.

then,Use fingertips to massage through hair and leave for a few moments

Brush product out preferable using a natural bristle brush.

I don't have a natural bristle brush so I'm just using my handy round VS Sasoon comb.
Contemplating spending $15 on a Coles Brand boar bristle brush. Should I? Or invest more in another brand of brush? hmmm...

And the results of Batiste Dry Shampoo?

Softer, more voluminous, bouncier and nice smelling hair!

No I am not exaggerating. It really does what it claims to do!

I would recommend every girl to own a bottle! It's so handy and helps us revive our hair in an instant! It also comes in a smaller purse sized can for your convenience!

Bag For Uni

Ever felt that your bag is too small for all your uni stuffs? Ever felt your shoulders going numb after carrying a bag full of stuffs around and your hands are still full?

Well! I have! And I'm going to get a backpack to solve all this. Can't bear with the pain and trouble anymore. Because I carry books, my laptop, my jacket, water bottle and all daily stuffs like handphones, wallet, make up pouch to uni. So, I shall ease my misery with a BACKPACK!

Here are some designs I consider quite convinient for uni purposes. Might even make you change your mind and follow my footsteps! You can still be fashionable with a backpack! =D

Animal Instincts

I'm pretty sure that everyone of you would have spotted a clothing or two in a shop splashed with animal print patterns. Not only that but it seems that there are more and more pieces of accessories coming up that are thoroughly inspired with animal motives. I for one, have been craving for ANYTHING that has something to do with those killer prints.

I love combining pastels with animal prints to tone down the whole dramatic print for if not, it would be a disaster or I would look like as if I just got out from a safari zoo.

Sorry for the headless photo but it's hard taking pictures of myself looking good with the outfit as well and I didn't want to take a picture of my own reflection from the mirror. Anyway, as you can see from the picture, I'm wearing a Zebra high-waisted T-Shirt dress and I've combined it with a pastel pink patent bag. As it is getting warmer lately, I finally get to wear a pair of white wedges from the cupboard and flaunt it under the warm sun.

There you have it, an outfit for a bright sunny day. =DD

My Everyday Look

note: When I could be bothered to put in a bit more effort into dressing up, I guess I do look a bit more decent. At other lazy days, all I want to do is to put on my faded blue jeans, a t-shirt and a large hoodie. Sorry I look so unglam in the photos as these were taken after I got home from uni.Whole day in uni, half an hour transit via public transport, 5 minutes walk home, you get the picture...

The trends I enjoy right now are the cropped blazers, tights (they're never going away are they?), nautical inspired, vintage jewelry, animal prints, floral motives, fringes and of course black. You can never go wrong with anything black.

Shoo Sticks

A friend of mine recently gave me some freebies. Sample packs of Shoo Sticks!

Don't you just hate it when you put on a sexy pair of strappy heels or a sling back but the falling straps just kills your mojo? I used to use normal double sided tape in my vain attempt to keep the straps from falling but by a few hours, it just falls off and I'm back to pulling my strap up every once in awhile. Feel my pain?

Shoo Sticks

I guess this product is similar to the magic body tape that you can use to tape on your clothes to yourself. So, this isn't exactly new technology.

Each 'stick' is roughly the size of your average shoe strap.
It's thick in a sense that it's like those foam double sided tape.
For our convenience, look, it even tells you which side to stick where!

But wait, Shoo Sticks are not just for keeping your straps attached!
The instruction sheet says that you can also use it to:
- Hold slipping straps
- Minimise rubbing
- Feel secure in sky high heels

I got my first gold-leather linked bracelet from Diva in Malaysia and I never stopped purchasing gold bracelets from then on. Diva is actually not bad considering how I ignore that shop everytime I'm at a mall. Maybe it's the new collection and maybe it's just my hormones. Diva is selling a generous amount of gold accessories. And, they come in a bunch of 4 or 5 bangles. So, it's best you invest in TWO bunch and mixmatch it to match your outfit!(like what I did!). Obviously, it's best paired with simple tops because God know's how distracting it becomes when you pile extravagant accessories unto printed tops! Might give someone hypertension :)
And that is not good for the soul.

Spring

I think it's the middle of winter now here in Perth yet stores such as Valley Girl has already launched their Spring collection. I've got to say that I am loving all that lovely floral prints on cute dresses.

I was shopping at Harbor Town sometime ago and I found a tube floral dress and I just had to try it on. I really liked the vibrant colour, the fact that it's a tube dress (I simply adore the simplicity of a tube dress) and the tutu lining that gave the skirt an extra "poofyness".

The best part is? It's reduced from $49.90 to $19.90!

Was very tempted to get it. Friends gave it a green light suggesting that I can pair it with black tights and a simple black balzer then I can wear it out to uni etc.

But I told myself not to get it since it's a tad too bright and daring for me to pull off on any other day. Tell me it's ok that I didn't buy a twenty dollars pretty dress! In time, the current Spring collection will be reduced as well. *fingers crossed*

Well, since this is the first time I'm writing, have MERCY on me readers. =) Been thinking for a long time what to post, and how to. I've finally decided to keep it simple and stuff you with photos. =P

Went shopping with my girls in Forever 21 the other day and it triggered the hungry beast in me, HUNGER FOR CLOTHES! Haha. So, I went to F21 right away the following day! Gonna show the photos ;)

Gah! I love so many things and have no idea what to buy. Btw, if you ever see me with this look in the fitting room. PLEASE BE EXTRA CAREFUL! I'm going to bug you until you slap me. Haha.

Talking about things I want. I have such a long wishlist. Two pair of shoes from VIOR, bags from an online website, FLATS! **yes people! I'm going to wear flats so look out for funny scenes of me falling flat on my face!**, and oh! I want a maxi too. I want the bracelet from DIVA.

Winter Knits

It's already 2 months into Winter here in Perth and I do not enjoy my uni at this time because I have to get out of the house by 6.50-ish just to make it in time for my morning classes. The temperature will hit rock bottom ranging from 3 to 5 degrees? I'm a sucker for cold, really. There goes my hope of becoming a vampire wtf hahaha!

Anyway, my mum came to accompany me for whole 5 weeks! In that time, she practically turned into a knitting machine as she knitted about 4 cardigans, 1 baby blanket and many more which I've forgotten. Oh I chose that colour in the cardigan shown above because it makes me feel like a peacock. I'm pretty =D < *OMG GOT PINK COLOUR FONT!!*

Other than that peacock cardigan, she even knitted this mini cardigan for me with cute lil buttons bought from Spotlight! But then again, it's something that I could only wear during winter which is quite a pity if you think about it. Nevertheless, Spring is coming and I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE WHAT'S NEW IN STORES!

Ps : I bought new clothes AGAIN. I have reached the point of no return. < Fuh so drama.

WHAT CAUSES THIS?

I've always been somewhat baffled at why I get these white spot on the fingernails sometimes (on my index finger) At school, I've been told many variations of explanations, mainly from the 'traditional' side of things. Someone told me its due to calcium or vitamin deficiency and someone else told me it's because you're constipated. I find the latter very hard to believe.

In some cases perhaps it is contributed to calcium and vitamin deficiency but simply and more accurately, the cause of this white spot on your nails is due to any trauma to the nail base!

So do take care not to bum into anything if you want to avoid those unsightly white dots on your nails that ruins your otherwise nice and even looking nails. It takes approximately 8 months for your nail to grow from base to tip. Your fingernail also grows faster on your preferred hand meaning if you're a leftie, the nails on your left hand will grow faster, vice versa. Hope this has been slightly informative. Toodles.
